Fresh out of school, I jumped into real estate sales. Seven years later, a “blip” on the screen indicated a revolution was about to occur - and I became intrigued with personal computer technology. I followed my intuition and changed direction.
My computer career began as an entrepreneur when the IBM Personal Computer® was first introduced. Seeing the potential for changing the world’s approach to business, my husband and I opened a computer business. For the next 10 years, our relationships with company giants such as IBM, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Epson and others would cement our course in the computer industry. Throughout those years, training and consulting continued to be our primary passion as we helped our clients adapt to change.
I’ve often stated in my workshops, “One of the lessons you learn is to never fall in love with your business.” The day came when it was time to follow my own advice. When the timing dictated, I moved from a private enterprise and took my technical talents to other companies. One of the more recent moves was into the publishing industry where I helped modernize a regional newspaper entity with a high-tech publishing system.
Helping others adapt to change continues to shape my approach to guiding and coaching fellow professionals through successful transitions. When the Internet gained momentum, I was there to help the same publishing company shape its strategies for once again mastering the “technology beast.” Their online presence today continues to be a major component of their community involvement.
More recently, I brought my team building and management experience into the federal government as a contractor and guided a team of software developers to design complex applications, again turning the corner in technology and striking out in new territory.
I continue to draw upon these experiences during my special relationships with my coaching clients, helping them create a level of excellence that is sustainable across all areas of life – not just in the area of career.
