What is Coaching?

Most of us are familiar with the concept of a sports coach. Or a voice coach.

Why not have a life coach? Or a business development coach? Personal success coaching is not new. For over 20 years, thousands of individuals have sought out a safe haven from which they can dream, explore and practice new ideas. In some Fortune 500 companies, it is expected for all managers to have their own personal coach.

A sports coach works with a team of basketball players to perfect their hoop shooting and to enhance their court activities. A voice coach helps train a singer (or speaker) to perfect their pitch, their volume and their melodic presentation.

A life coach helps individuals to define what’s important to them; and together, they work out a strategy to achieve those results consistently.

Working with business executives and entrepreneurs, a coach helps them focus on the areas that are most important to them and their businesses. Maybe it’s trying to find a new marketing strategy. Perhaps it’s getting better at hiring the right kind of sales people and keeping them motivated. Maybe it’s trying to find balance between work and home. And, often, it’s coaching them through all of these areas.

Personal coaching is all about defining what is important to YOU and then helping you find ways to act on the necessary changes in your life so that your dreams and goals become a reality.

How Does Coaching Work?

You will appreciate my flexible approach. Together, we will design a personal success program that targets your focus areas. A typical program will work something like this:

  • We will schedule an initial 60-minute session to design a coaching strategy. This is a no-obligation, free hour to give you an opportunity to experience a coaching session and to understand the program that I offer. This session includes:
  • Exploring all areas of your life and determining successes as well as areas that could use improvement
  • Identifying those “stars” that excite you and motivate you to succeed
  • We will reach agreement to work together in a confidential manner to help you reach the “stars.”
  • Coaching sessions are generally 3 weeks apart and last from 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours over an 8-9 month period. When in-person coaching is not feasible due to geographical distances, tele-coaching is an option.
  • Sometimes, the sessions are focused on planning for a specific goal; other times, your time might be invested in exploring areas with a broader sweep.
