“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves.
The book is called ‘Opportunity’ and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
— Edith Lovejoy Pierce (1904-1983) twentieth-century poet and pacifist.
I love Beginnings.
The first day of school, the first day on a new job, driving a new car off the sales lot, that first step into a new home . . . . There is so much excitement and satisfaction in knowing that the preparation and actions I took brought me to this very moment in time. My dreams and expectations are aligned, and I have increased my self-confidence in knowing I have the ability to make things happen in my life.
Do you notice that in your own life too?
With the beginning of each new year, a similar energy surrounds us. There is a sense of new opportunity, that this is THE YEAR I ______(fill in the blank). It is that unlimited potential within you that is yearning for a fresh start – a chance to fill you up with excitement, belief and joy.
The results of our actions on a given day may (and most always does!) provide us with an enduring reminder of our investment of time. For example, when a person continues to overeat, the body weight and other health issues may soon show up – but it doesn’t happen overnight. Likewise, when a student practices her piano lessons faithfully, the home is one day filled with beautiful music. When authors continue to write pages every day, they eventually have a completed manuscript.
Complex accomplishments take time and consistent attention. How will you choose to invest your minutes and hours today? This week? This year?
If you detoured today, then acknowledge it and resolve to stay on track tomorrow. Move forward. Each day is an opportunity for a new beginning.
You are the author of your life. There are 365 pages to be written for 2017; how will you fill the pages this year?
I would love to hear your comments about your plans for 2017!
Have a Golden Day!
